Santo Domingo de Guzmán is, without a doubt, one of the most fascinating cities in the Caribbean, and the first city founded in the New World in 1496. This beautiful capital city, located two and a half hours from Punta Cana, invites you to explore its charms, and with our excursion you will achieve just that.
Our tour begins with a visit to «Los Tres Ojos,» a combination of caverns and cenotes, each with a high sulfur content and indescribable beauty.
We then continue to the Colonial Zone, home to the most important and imposing buildings from the colonial period. You will visit the first cathedral in the New World, the Alcázar of Diego Colón, the famous Las Damas Street, and several other 15th-century colonial monuments. Enjoy panoramic views of the city center, residential areas, and the National Presidential Palace. Your best shopping option will be in the colorful market. Lunch is included in a typical Dominican restaurant.
Your tour of this city steeped in Dominican culture and heritage begins early in the morning when we pick you up from your hotel in Punta Cana to take you to Santo Domingo, the capital and cultural heart of the Dominican Republic. The city offers a vibrant mix of sights and architecture steeped in history, but also buildings steeped in modernity.
With the help of an expert guide, you’ll stroll through the Colonial Zone to see the most notable monuments and architecture. You’ll learn how the Spanish conquistadors lived with a visit to the Alcázar de Diego Colón, the fortress where the Grand Admiral’s family lived.
You’ll also visit more iconic monuments, such as the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), the Palace of Fine Arts, the Eduardo Brito National Theater, the National Palace, the Metropolitan Cathedral of Santa María de la Encarnación, the Jesuit Church, the National Pantheon, and Colón Park.
All of these visits can really work up an appetite. What better place to eat than at a traditional restaurant in Santo Domingo? Afterwards, let yourself be tempted by the traditional souvenirs offered in the colorful shops and boutiques of Columbus Square.
